When a crown helps

A crown evaluation may be useful for

A cracked or broken tooth

Hold a cracked tooth together and stop the crack from spreading.

A large or failing filling

Replace big old fillings that leave too little natural tooth to stay strong.

After a root canal

Protect back teeth that have had root canal treatment from fracture.

A worn or damaged crown

Replace an old crown that's loose, chipped, leaking or showing a dark edge.

A closer look

A crown is about how much tooth is left — not just how big the filling looks

A crown is a custom cap that covers a prepared tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. We recommend one when a filling alone wouldn't provide enough support — because of cracks, large old fillings, deep decay or a root canal — not simply because a filling looks large.

Modern crown materials such as porcelain and high-strength ceramics are durable, comfortable and designed to look just like your natural teeth. The right material depends on where the tooth sits, how much force it carries and your cosmetic priorities.

Same-day crowns are available for suitable cases at Magnolia Dentistry. Not every tooth should follow the same workflow, though — we explain the material, preparation and timing that fit your tooth rather than treating "same day" as the goal by itself.

What to expect

Getting a dental crown

  1. Assess the tooth

We check remaining structure, gum health and your bite to confirm a crown is the right restoration.

  2. Prepare & record

The tooth is numbed and shaped, then digitally scanned or recorded so the crown fits precisely.

  3. Design your crown

Your crown is shade-matched and made — in the same visit for suitable cases, or by a dental lab.

  4. Fit & check

We try in the crown, check contacts and bite, then bond it permanently.

Why patients trust Dr. Massaband

Hands down the best dentist and dental office I have ever been to. I got my teeth worked on by Dr. Massaband — she is an absolute delight. Her work is top of the line. I have always been afraid of the dentist, but the way she worked on me I didn’t feel any pain or discomfort, which is so rare to find. She really makes sure you are 100% satisfied before you walk out of her office. Staff is super friendly and the office is in a great location.

Dr. Massaband was wonderful! I brought my mom to her in an emergency state. The doctor came in early on a Sunday, was very professional and detail oriented, took great care of my mom’s complicated procedure and even followed up multiple times a day during her recovery. Very grateful to have found her!

Frequently asked questions

Questions patients ask

How long do dental crowns last?

Well-made crowns commonly last 10–15 years or more with good oral hygiene, regular checkups and protection from grinding.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The tooth is fully numbed during preparation, so most patients feel only pressure. Mild sensitivity or gum tenderness for a few days afterward is normal.

Is a same-day crown suitable for every tooth?

No. The tooth's condition, the material needed and the complexity of the restoration determine the best approach. We'll explain your options.

Can a crowned tooth still get a cavity?

Yes. The natural tooth at the crown's edge can still decay, so brushing, cleaning between teeth and regular checkups remain important.

What if my crown feels too high or comes loose?

Call us. A high bite can be adjusted quickly, and a loose crown can often be re-cemented if you bring it with you.
