Burbank Dentist That Accepts Aetna Dental PPO

Have Aetna Dental PPO? Magnolia Dentistry in Burbank accepts Aetna PPO plans for emergency visits, crowns, implants and checkups. Here's how your plan works.

Patient holding their jaw because of tooth pain before an emergency dental visit

Magnolia Dentistry accepts Aetna Dental PPO plans. Whether you need a same-day visit for tooth pain, a crown, an implant consultation or a routine cleaning, you can use your Aetna PPO benefits at our Burbank office. We check your specific plan before treatment so you know what to expect.

Aetna sells many dental plans through employers and directly to individuals, so two people with "Aetna dental" can have very different coverage. Here is what to know about how Aetna's PPO plans work.

How Aetna Dental PPO plans work

Aetna's dental PPO plans let you choose a dentist at each visit. In-network dentists offer special rates, which usually lowers your share, and they file claims for you. You can also visit any licensed dentist outside the network, but you may pay more, and if the dentist's charge is higher than the plan's allowed amount, you pay the difference (Aetna Dental PPO plan brochure). In Texas, Aetna calls the same type of plan a Participating Dental Network (PDN).

Out-of-network payments are based on the charge levels described in your plan documents, so the clearest way to compare is a written estimate for your planned treatment. We'll check how your Aetna plan applies at our office before your visit.

When you need an emergency dentist with Aetna PPO

Dental emergencies rarely wait for a convenient time. If you have severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken or knocked-out tooth, call our office first. We fit emergencies in the same day whenever possible, and Dr. Massaband is on call for dental emergencies from 6 AM to 12 AM every day.

Most Aetna PPO plans cover an emergency (problem-focused) exam and the X-rays needed to diagnose the problem under diagnostic and preventive benefits. Treatment that follows, such as a filling, extraction, root canal or temporary crown, is covered at your plan's basic or major level after the deductible. If the treatment needed is extensive, we can relieve the pain first and plan the rest with a clear estimate. See our emergency dentist page for what to do while you're on your way.

Crowns, implants and other major treatment

Major services are where Aetna plans differ most. Look in your plan summary for the coverage level for major services, your annual maximum and any waiting period. Implant coverage in particular varies: some Aetna plans include it and some exclude it, and plans can apply alternate benefit rules that pay based on a less expensive option. Our guide to whether PPO dental insurance covers implants walks through each rule, and the dental insurance missing tooth clause guide covers one of the most common surprises.

For any large treatment plan, ask us to submit a predetermination to Aetna so you have its expected payment in writing.

Cosmetic treatment with Aetna PPO

Aetna plans, like most dental plans, generally exclude treatment done purely for appearance, such as veneers and whitening. A consultation is still worthwhile: some parts of a smile makeover, such as replacing a broken filling or crowning a weakened tooth, may be covered as restorative care. Plans we don't accept

We accept PPO dental plans only. Aetna also offers DMO (dental HMO) plans that require you to use an assigned primary dentist; we don't accept those, or government-funded programs such as Medi-Cal Dental.
